Shopify has unveiled its latest innovation: the Horizon theme collection, a suite of 10 free, AI-powered themes designed to redefine online store customisation.

Launched during the Summer 2025 Editions, Horizon is poised to succeed the popular Dawn theme, offering merchants enhanced flexibility and creative control. This is introducing a new standard for Shopify theme customisation, blending design flexibility with user-friendly tools.

Modular Design with Theme Blocks

Horizon introduces a fully modular, block-based layout system, allowing merchants to design every page—not just the homepage—using customisable blocks. These blocks can be nested up to eight levels deep, providing granular control over content placement and design. This structure enables dynamic layouts, combining elements like images, videos, and product information in any sequence, all without the need for coding. 

AI-Assisted Customisation

A standout feature of Horizon is its AI-assisted theme creation. Merchants can generate entire storefronts or specific sections by simply describing their business or desired layout. 


Enhanced Theme Editor Experience

To complement the Horizon themes, Shopify has overhauled its theme editor. Improvements include live block previews, a streamlined sidebar, predictive search, and quick actions like copy/paste and renaming. These enhancements facilitate a more intuitive and efficient customisation process.
