Great news for merchants automating workflows with Shopify Flow: managing metafields is now a whole lot easier.

If you’ve ever had to manually plug in namespace, key, and type details just to update or remove a metafield, you’ll appreciate this update. Flow’s latest enhancement simplifies the process, saving your team time and reducing the chance for error—especially useful if you're managing product or customer data at scale.

What’s new:

  • Dropdown Metafield Selection
You can now select metafields from a dropdown menu instead of manually entering the namespace and key. It’s quicker, more intuitive, and ensures you’re working with the right data fields every time.

  • Quick Access to Create Definitions
Need a new metafield on the fly? You can now create metafield definitions directly from the Flow action using the new “Add definition” link—no need to jump into your Shopify admin separately.

  • Manual Option Still Available
Prefer to work programmatically or need something custom? You can still choose the “Select an unstructured metafield” option to input details manually.

This is a small but powerful update that improves how you automate with Flow—especially for advanced workflows that rely on clean, structured data.
