Starting February 2, 2025, Shopify has made its Duties and Import Taxes feature available to merchants on all Shopify plans—not just Advanced or Plus. This is a great opportunity for growing brands to offer international customers a more transparent and seamless checkout experience without needing to upgrade their plan.

What does this mean for your store?

You can now display and collect estimated duties and import taxes at checkout, helping buyers understand the total cost of their purchase upfront. This is especially helpful for reducing cart abandonment and unexpected post-purchase friction when selling internationally.

Why it matters:

  • Sell globally with confidence
Help customers avoid surprise fees at delivery and build trust with transparent pricing.

  • Reduce chargebacks and parcel rejections
Clear duty/tax costs at checkout lower the risk of packages being refused due to unexpected charges.

  • Use with DDP labels
If you're collecting duties and import taxes, be sure to pair this with duty prepaid (DDP) labels from your carrier. This ensures your buyers don’t get double-charged and helps prevent delivery issues. DDP labels are currently managed outside of Shopify Shipping.
